I am Manishankar, and i write at the intersection of international development, sustainability and public policy.
Ideas have consequences, as they drive decisions and hence unpacking the blackbox of the idea is critical for constructive discourse. Only core text. no media. We are visually distracted too much, anyways.
On a personal note, I was born in Mumbai, India and have lived a ‘Half-Pat’s life in Muscat, Oman. I studied my undergrad engineering degree in Biotechnology from Oman and read my Masters degree in Environmental Engineering from the National University of Singapore. I was a TV Finalist representing NUS in the TATA Crucible Business Quiz Singapore Edition in 2010 (telecast on Channel News Asia).
I was reading a second grad degree in Sociology at the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore as a NRF Scholar when I realised that impact happens in the real world and not by reading research papers . During my Masters at NUS, I had been the Research Director of the Social Entrepreneurship initiative at the International Youth Development Organization AIESEC at its NUS Chapter of AIESEC Singapore. This year and half stint catalyzed my interest in Social Innovation and International Development matters. I am a Development Consultant/Policy Researcher by day and currently writing a book on urbanization too. I have consulted for Fortune 500 clients and large Multilateral Financial Institution funded projects.
I have written for Huffington Post India Blog, Corporate Citizenship Briefing, Green Business Singapore, Banglar Kantha- South East Asia’s only Bengali Language Paper in English and Alochonaa among others. I have curated content strategy in the past for Social Cops: A Big Data for Public Policy Start up based in Delhi/Singapore (Social Cops Blog).
Do get in touch if you would like me to write, coach, speak, consult for you.
I was interviewed by Forbes on India’s Demonetization crisis:
I have been an invited panel discussion participant on The Stream @ Al Jazeera International for a debate on India’s Food Security Bill. Here the program url : http://stream.aljazeera.com/story/201310080008-0023094
I have been quoted in the Singaporean and Bangladeshi Media and have participated in a by-invitation only ‘France 24 TV English: Observers’ workshop-program in Delhi.
I am a pro bono consultant to Banglar Kantha-Dibashram, GIVE, Batti Project etc.
