Just saw a news on Bloomberg through my twitter feed that Oman is asking for financing from Qatar, which will firmly entrench Muscat in the Doha-Ankara-Tehran alternative geopolitical configuration which emerged post June 2017, also called the Doha blockade. I co-wrote a paper with the distinguished Gulf scholar Dr Nisha in 2018 for the cities and network series at the Middle East Institute at the National University of Singapore on Muscat’s role in helping Doha circumventing the blockade. Interesting times in the post carbon and post pandemic Gulf where consolidations in the post GCC regional conflagration firm up in two camps, around Doha and Riyadh.
